Why I Invented Blockchain Psychology
July 21, 2026
I bought Bitcoin on the advice of a trusted friend. I was hurt by it. I was scammed by it. And I never stopped believing in what it was actually designed to do.
That sequence is the whole reason this discipline exists. Most people who get hurt in this industry leave, and most people who stay have not been hurt. The small group who were hurt and stayed anyway end up asking a different question — not what went wrong with the technology, but what went wrong with us.
What the video does not say
The video tells the story. It does not make the argument, so here it is.
Blockchain is usually evaluated as an engineering problem. Throughput, finality, security assumptions, cost per transaction. Those are real constraints and they are being solved steadily. But almost none of the well-documented failures of the past decade were throughput failures. They were governance failures, trust failures, disclosure failures, and decision failures — all of them human categories.
When a field misdiagnoses its own failures, it invests in the wrong fixes. It builds faster rails for a system nobody trusts, and then treats the resulting non-adoption as an education problem. It rarely is. It is usually a design problem, and the thing being badly designed is the moment of decision.
Blockchain asks for slow, careful, deliberative thinking — reading the contract, verifying the address, holding the key, understanding the vote. It asks this of people who are operating fast, under uncertainty, and often under social pressure. Daniel Kahneman’s account of the two systems of thought (Kahneman, Thinking, Fast and Slow) describes the mismatch precisely: the fast, adaptive mode that carries most of daily life is exactly the wrong mode for irreversible transactions, and it is the mode most interfaces recruit.
Where blockchain has actually succeeded at scale, it has done the opposite. It has stopped asking. The settlement layer disappeared behind a normal-looking product and people used it without knowing what it was. That is the pattern worth studying, and it is what the research since has been about.
